Beware the Bridal Telemarketing.

I must have overlooked the fine print in something I signed at a bridal store because it’s been two months and I’ve received countless phone calls from other bridal-related businesses. They like to call me when I least have time and introduce themselves with “We got your number from XYZ bridal store.” Oh yes, the one I gave my cell phone number to thinking that it would only be used for my gown fitting appointments and needs. Now everyone who works with XYZ bridal store also knows my wedding date, my fiance’s name and probably my dress and shoe size since I provided that, too, in confidence. And like that isn’t enough, they also like to ask me for my fiance’s telephone number to give him a call and stalk him until he buys something from them. Don’t you know that only works when I do it!? Anyway, when I lose patience I like to make things awkward by saying, “Oh, thanks, but we’ve actually put our plans on hold because we don’t know if we’ll get married after all.” At first I didn’t think this would be so awkward to hear, but I underestimate telemarketers’ structured scripts because they have yet to respond with something more than a “Uhh… ok. Have a good day.” *click*
